Bodywork is a blanket term for treatments that involve soft tissue manipulation for health and wellness. It encompasses modalities such as Structural Integration, Massage (Deep Tissue, Sports Massage and Relaxation Massage), Thai Massage, Ayurvedic Massage, Indian Head Massage, Cranio Sacral Therapy, Shiatsu and Reflexology to name just some.

The difference between getting a massage from a Registered Massage Therapist and a Bodyworker mostly comes down to insurance coverage. RMTs have associations that regulate the types of work they can do and hold the therapists to mandatory continuing education every two years. RMTs attend specific schools that are recognized by these associations and must complete all hours within one institution.

Bodyworkers may have a more diverse education, receiving their different certifications from multiple institutions. Because of this, there are no associations at this time that recognize Bodyworkers which prevents insurance companies from recognizing their certifications.
