What is Bodywork?

Bodywork is a blanket term for treatments that involve soft tissue manipulation for health and wellness. It encompasses modalities such as Structural Integration, Massage (Deep Tissue, Sports Massage and Relaxation Massage), Thai Massage, Ayurvedic Massage, Indian Head Massage, Cranio Sacral Therapy, Shiatsu and Reflexology to name just some.

The difference between getting a massage from a Registered Massage Therapist and a Bodyworker soley comes down to insurance coverage. RMTs have associations that regulate the types of work they can do and hold the therapists to mandatory continuing education every two years. RMTs attend specific schools that are recognized by these associations and must complete all hours within one institution.

Bodyworkers tend to have a more diverse education, receiving their certifications from multiple institutions and instructors. Because of this, associations do not allow many Bodyworkers to join, keeping insurance companies from recognizing their certifications and in many cases, decades of trainings  and experience.

Clients booking with Krysta may receive insurance reimbursement for Reflexology Treatments in their Health Spending or Wellness Accounts. Reflexology Treatments may have up to 45 minutes of Body Massage added into the session to have it included in the receipt for insurance coverage. Contact Krysta for more information.

We acknowledge that we stand on Treaty 7 territory.

In the spirit of respect, reciprocity and truth, we honour and acknowledge Moh’kinsstis, and the traditional Treaty 7 territory and oral practices of the Blackfoot confederacy: Siksika, Kainai, Piikani, as well as the Îyâxe Nakoda and Tsuut’ina nations. We acknowledge that this territory is home to the Métis Nation of Alberta, Region 3 within the historical Northwest Métis homeland. Finally, we acknowledge all Nations – Indigenous and non – who live, work and play on this land, and who honour and celebrate this territory.

We are eternally grateful for the traditional Knowledge Keepers and Elders who have gone before us and who remain with us today.  We make this acknowledgement as an act of reconciliation and gratitude to those whose territory we reside on or are visiting.
