About The Haven

The Haven is the vision of Krysta and her late mother Patricia.

Krysta ran a vibrant, award winning Bodywork/Massage business (Momentum Bodywork and Massage) in New Westminster, BC for over ten years. In October, 2020 she moved back to Alberta to care for her elderly, recently widowed mother. Wanting to realize a grander vision of her previous business, she came across the historic brick home that now houses the spa and fell in love. With Patricia's loving help, The Haven was born.

The Haven is a customer centered business. Clients are never rushed out the door, receiving their full time in treatment as Krysta does not believe in overbooking hers or her practitioners' schedules. She recommends that people allow for at least a half hour around their treatment time to allow for optimal relaxation. The Haven offers complimentary filtered and re-mineralized water, coffee, tea, sparkling water and locally made or homemade treats for client enjoyment. No one leaves The Haven empty handed. Krysta is passionate about supporting local/Canadian businesses and you will find many products locally curated just for The Haven in the Retail Nook.

Our beautiful relaxation garden (or in the cooler months our glassed in porch/sunroom) is the perfect place to unwind and let your tensions go before or after your treatment. As a pet-friendly business, clients who cannot leave their animals alone at home are welcome to bring them along to treatment to play in the yard or relax in our pet friendly living room.

Krysta and her team of wellness professionals can't wait to welcome you into their home away from home.

The Haven is dedicated to the memory of Krysta's late mother, who passed away suddenly in January, 2022.

A portion of proceeds from all sales in our retail boutique as well as all sales of The Haven's Strawberry Rhubarb jam are donated to various animal charities in her memory.

As we are a Wellness Center, The Haven upholds strict cleanliness protocols to help you stay healthy during your time with us.

All implements are sanitized and disinfected as required by AHS and all files and buffer blocks from our nail treatments are single use and sent home with clients after treatment. Clients are welcome to view our sanitation guidelines and cleaning protocols.

'Krysta really cares about her clients and her community. Her smile and laugh are contagious. This is what sets her apart. She is a light in this community and I have only heard nice things said about her.'

Krysta, Owner of The Haven

Certified Bodywork Practitioner, Yoga Instructor, DOG MOM and Natural Beauty Treatment Specialist

Krysta was born and raised in Calgary where she pursued studies in ballet and contemporary dance.  In 1993 she migrated to the West Coast of B.C. to fulfil her passions where she danced professionally in Canada, the USA and Europe for 25 years prior to finding her niche in the healing arts as a Bodyworker/Manual Therapist.

Krysta has over 20 years experience and education in Manual Therapy, Yoga, Somatics and  Dance and Movement Therapy. She received her Certification as a Bodyworker/Spa Therapist from the Vancouver School of Healing Arts in 2011, graduating with Honors at the top of her class. Her former Massage Spa of ten years, Momentum Bodywork and Massage, won the prestigious New Westminster Chamber of Commerce Award for Business of the Year in 2017 and the Quality Day Spa Award for Best Day Spa in New Westminster in 2020.

Believing our bodies work as a unit, nervous system included, Krysta's sessions are an intuitive blend of Deep Tissue, Structural Integration, Energy Healing and Relaxation Techniques. Her treatment style addresses the root of tension in the whole body rather than focusing on a symptomatic approach. Clients experience an optimal state of relaxation in the nervous system which allows the therapeutic work to set in.

Krysta also has training in Holistic Esthetics, providing Holistic Facials, Manicures, Pedicures and other treatments with organic products to empower men and women to feel their best from the inside out.

Krysta lives an active life and loves spending time in nature, running, cycling doing yoga and paddleboarding. She is also a 'Dog Mom' to her rescue pup Sailor, who frequents the 'Spaw' periodically. Clients appreciate her sense of humor, her down to earth, no-nonsense attitude and her empathetic approach to their healing process. She loves to help people and has spent much of her professional career mentoring new health and wellness practitioners.

Krysta is presently in the process of completing her Reflexology Certification (Spring 2024) and is also training to be a Thai Yoga Massage Therapist. She is excited to provide Cochrane with her unique style of therapeutic, relaxing and integrative treatments while supporting Cochrane's wellness and small business community

Certified Aesthetician and Dog Mom

Mandy holds a certification in Medical Aesthetics from The Maritime Art Institute of Holistic Esthetics. She has been working with skin since 2006 and her focus at The Haven has shifted to non-medical treatments such as European Facials, Manicures, Pedicures, Brows, Lashes and Relaxation Massage. Her passion is skincare and you haven't had a facial until you've booked with Mandy!

In her spare time she enjoys spending time with her two Huskys and is training to become a Birth Doula.

Registered Massage Therapist and Dog Mom

Kate is an Aussie based here in Cochrane! She arrived in Canada with a certificate in Swedish Massage and how holds her 3000 Hour Advanced Clinical Registered Massage Therapy certification from Makami College in Calgary.

Kate excels in providing treatments that are both relaxing and therapeutic, preferring to provide her healing touch in a pampering spa atmosphere over a more 'impersonal' clinic setting. She has quickly cultivated a regular clientele and we are proud to have her as part of our wellness family! She also offers spa add-ons to her treatments such as Scrubs, Wraps and Hot Stones.

When she isn't at  The Haven, you'll find her hanging with her dog Gunner, going on adventures!
She looks forward to meeting you

Certified Bodywork Practitioner and Dog Mom

Melissa is a nurturing and intuitive bodyworker whose intention is to meet every-body with full presence. She aims to maintain a holistic and collaborative approach with her clients to prioritize comfort, care, and connection. Her massage style dually serves as both relaxing and therapeutic, drawing on practices primarily from Swedish, Myofascial Release, and Deep Tissue modalities. With a strong understanding of anatomy and the ways tension and stress manifest in the body, you can expect to experience a highly personalized session specific to your needs and desired pressure. Melissa is a graduate of the 700 hr Bodywork Therapy Program at the Vancouver School of Healing Arts. She views this career path as one of lifelong learning and is working towards increasing her skills and experience with continued education.

Born and raised in lower mainland, B.C. Melissa now calls Calgary her home. In addition to practicing bodywork, her commitment to wellness and service has also found expression through supporting households with cleaning and organizing. When not offering healing touch at The Haven, or caring for homes in Calgary, she enjoys spending time in nature with Cedar, her Husky, sharing a good meal with friends, and practicing yoga at her local studio.

Melissa feels honoured to be practicing at The Haven and looks forward to connecting with you.

Sailor, The Haven Hound

Herrooo I'm Sailor, The Haven Hound and rescue doggo extraordinaire! Sometimes I come to the Spaw to help mommy, you might see me working hard to keep the prairie dogs from coming around. Did you know they aren't real dogs!

If I'm there I'll greet you with a wag an a wiggle (watch your feet, I'm a shoe-stealing love bug). I am shy when you first meet me so if you give me space and lots of treats I'll be your best friend fur-ever!

I love helping mommy work, she gives the best healing belly rubs and I do Zen-Dog really well!

I can hardly wait to meet you (bring snacks)!

Emmy, Spoiled Brat

Yes hello, my name is Emmy and while mommy thinks she runs the Spaw, it's really my house.

I enjoy head scratches and warm laps, no belly rubs please I'm ticklish. I hate manicures and would enjoy giving you a

'paw-cupuncture' treatment to your lap if you would like it added to your stay free of charge.

I will greet you on my terms, if you have an allergy I will likely be more interested in getting to know you so let mommy know when you arrive and I'll try not to take it personally. You can make it up to me by throwing some treats my way and I will go mind my own business in my basement suite.

Just kidding...did you click on the button?
